“A friend asked me, how do I know what to paint in which square. The answer is, I don't! I am moving around the painting continually changing colors, changing squares and deciding as I go. They refer to this as painting intuitively. It is a very freeing way to paint, for me.”
This is just one of the many conversations that I’ve engaged in as I unveiled my new painting series. My supportive collectors and fans, friends and family have taken the time to comment or reach out to ask about my pixelated painting series as I worked on this first painting one square at a time.
I confess that I was nervous to take you all along on my journey when I wasn’t entirely sure where I was going. There is no road map with this particular creative process. There are no rules or best practices for me to follow. I am inventing and exploring all at the same time. Every day is a new discovery.
That may be a reflection of what is going on in our world, with Coronavirus. A global pandemic does not have a road map. There are medical best practices, but not emotional ones. How do we react, cope, adjust? Most days, we are just doing the best we can.
But let’s not forget, there is beauty to be found in journeys with no map. There is a freedom and wildness to allowing the road take you where it may. Spontaneity can be exhilarating! Especially for a planner, like me. I have found incredible peace in this time of turmoil. I have been motivated to reach for more, and to grow and change into the best version of me.
