All in your head
“It’s all in your head”.
What a loaded phrase. Usually this is thrown at someone who is overreacting, imagining the worst, or creating drama where there isn’t any. But as I look at this new painting, I thought of this phrase in a new way.
The figure is rooted in grays and neutrals. She has a somber, downcast gaze. There is a sadness that hangs in the air. But then, look up. Look at the vibrant red and orange and violet colors that lift her out of this murkiness.
What if all the colors are hope and dreams and possibilities? What if all the goals and visions of her future are all in her head? What if they are bursting forth to create a new future, a new reality where she lives in confidence and joy and expectant happiness?
This painting was so fun to create. I loved approaching each square with a new thought, a new color, and new idea. It is complex and yet simple.
I hope when you look at it, there is some part of you that connects too. You may see something totally different from what I’ve written. But that is the wonder and magic of original art. It speaks to all of us in so many different ways. No wrongs or rights. Just a personal message you receive when you stand in front of it. Maybe it’s not all in your head. Maybe it’s in your heart too.
