Art in Andalusia

I can’t believe it has been 2 months since I have returned from my wonderful art travels in Spain and France! Life has been a bit chaotic since my return home, but I wanted to take some time to write about the first part of my trip, a fantastic 2 week art workshop in Andalusia lead by artist, Tonja Sell.

The southern part of Spain is truly magical. If you have read the book “The Alchemist” you’ll already be in love with this picturesque region. Driving up the coast of the Mediterranean Sea before arriving at our villa, was spectacular and the villa we stayed at is so charming. Nestled in a 15-acre farm with mango trees, olive trees and gardens bursting with color, La Finca, is truly an artist’s haven.

Allowing myself to have 2 weeks to explore, wander, take photographs, sketch, paint, learn, laugh, eat and drink with other creatives, was more rewarding than I can even say. I love travel, and this trip was better than I even imagined. We enjoyed many day trips in addition to our time at the Villa. The incredible food and wine made me never want to leave! Tonja, our art teacher, introduced us to so many different mediums to experiment with and we all learned new things every day.

I had the privilege of teaching a demo to our group on painting succulents in watercolor. The villa had just the right subjects for me to draw from and I had a wonderful time sharing my knowledge and techniques with everyone.

If you have ever thought about exploring your creative side, this is the trip for you. You do not have to be a skilled artist. You just need a love of travel, food and friends. There is no expectation of creating a masterpiece to bring home. This experience is about trying new things, exploring beautiful places, meeting fun people and enjoying the simpler things of life.
